Staff Reporter
Bangalore: It was a simple but profoundly moving ceremony. On the occasion of 56th
Raising Day of the Parachute Regiment and in honour of the unflinching courage displayed by the late Capt. Harshan R., his statue was unveiled at the Parachute Regiment Training Centre (PRTC), Bangalore, on Tuesday.
A new Military Training Multipurpose Complex was also inaugurated.
Colonel S.S. Sangwan, Officiating Commandant of PRTC, requested Capt. Harshan’s father, K. Radhakrishnan Nair, to unveil his son’s statue. Col. Sangwan narrated the 27-year-old captain’s heroism in fighting terrorists at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir in March 2007.
Lieutenant General H.S. Lidder, Colonel of the Parachute Regiment, in his message, stated that Capt. Harshan’s statue would instil courage and patriotism in the Regiment.
Earlier, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the War Memorial of the Parachute Regiment to pay homage to the war heroes. Col. S.S. Sangwan and senior serving and retired officers placed wreaths at the memorial.
